Fire Log: Propane Leak and Burning Branches

A number of patient care incidents and malfunctioning alarms mark the week, but a propane leak, a motor vehicle accident and electrical issues define it.

Monday, July 12, 2010

  • 7:04 AM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 10:09 AM: Danbury Road, fire alarm.  Apparent malfunction of the alarm system, no fire or hazards present.
  • 10:44 AM: Cheese Spring Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 11:08 AM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 1:18 PM: Dudley Road, fire alarm.  Apparent malfunction of the alarm system, no fire or hazards present.
  • 8:54 PM: Danbury Road, fire alarm.  Apparent malfunction of the alarm system, no fire or hazards present.

Tuesday, July 13

  • 5:49 AM: Hubbard Road, brush fire.  Upon arrival FD personnel found a small brush fire.  Firefighters extinguished the fire, and check for extension.
  • 7:54 PM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 9:17 PM: River Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.

  • 2:38 AM: Danbury Road, fire alarm, Accidental activation of the alarm system, no fire or hazards present.
  • 7:44 AM: Danbury Road, odor investigation.  Slight odor present in a building, firefighters metered and investigated, unable to locate source.  Occupants advised to air out building, and recontact the Fire Department if the situation got worse.
  • 9:15 AM: Danbury Road, wires down.  Upon arrival FD personnel found electrical wires down and in the street, area secured, CL&P notified.

Thursday, July 15

  • 8:40 AM: Newtown Turnpike, propane leak.  Report of a propane leak, up arrival FD personnel investigated and metered the area, and found a leaking propane line.  Firefighters shut of tank, and disconnected it.  Occupant advised to contact the propane company.
  • 1:50 PM: Belden Hill Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 3:20 PM: Danbury Road, fire alarm.  Apparent malfunction of the alarm system, no fire or hazards present.
  • 6:20 PM: Danbury Road, fire alarm.  Apparent malfunction of the alarm system, no fire or hazards present.
  • 7:58 PM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.

  • 12:19 PM: Fawn Ridge, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 3:09 PM: Wilton Acres, wires down.  Upon arrival FD personnel found wires and a tree down in the road.  Area secured, CL&P notified.

Saturday, July 17

  • 4:42 AM: Deer Run, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 5:27 AM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 12:00 PM: West Meadow, fire alarm.  Apparent malfunction of the alarm system, no fire or hazards present.
  • 1:01 PM: Danbury Road, fire alarm.  Apparent malfunction of the alarm system, no fire or hazards present.
  • 1:26 PM: McFadden Drive, burning wires.  Report of electrical wires on fire, upon arrival FD personnel observed a branch coming in contact with electrical wires and burning.  Branch eventually burned off, CL&P notified.
  • 1:30 PM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 2:29 PM: Hurlbutt Street, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 5:06 PM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 7:30 PM: Olmstead Hill Road, motor vehicle accident.  Single car vs. utility pole.  Firefighters assisted with treating one injured party.  FD personnel also contained and cleaned up a fluid spill. CL&P notified of incident.
  • 7:42 PM: Ridge Road, Weston, mutual aid.  Wilton FD requested mutual aid by Weston, Wilton unit canceled in route.

Sunday, July 18

  • 12:08 AM: Wolfpit Road, fire alarm.  Apparent malfunction of the alarm system, no fire or hazards present.

Monday, July 19

  • 12:00 AM: Tito Lane, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 9:10 AM: Ridgefield Road, wires down.  Upon arrival FD personnel found electrical wires and a tree had fallen across the road.  Area secured, CL&P notified.
  • 9:15 AM: Cheese Spring Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 10:34 AM: Millstone Road, burning wires.  Report of wires on a utility pole burning, area checked, nothing found.
  • 5:09 PM: Nod Hill Road, propane leak.  Report of a propane leak on a grill.  Upon investigation FD personnel found the source to be an improperly attached tank.  Tank was reattached, grill operated normal.
  • 7:19 PM: Arrowhead Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
