Five Great Places to Picnic
Pack a lunch, pick up some sandwiches, get out and enjoy all nature has to offer.

- Ambler Farm 257 Hurlbutt Street, Wilton. Ambler Farm has picnic tables set up on their grounds. Spend snack time watching the kids run around on the grass in front of the garden. Afterwards, head over to the field across the parking lot to watch a soccer match.
- Weir Farm National Historic Site 735 Nod Hill Road, Wilton. Head to Weir Farm for a springtime picnic on a Saturday and enjoy the Take Part in Art Program while there. Picnic on the rock patio set build by J. Alden Weir. Hike the trails, take photographs, and don’t forget a bird watching guide to check off all the winged varieties at the site.
- Woodcock Nature Center 56 Deer Run Road, Wilton. The WNC has picnic areas at the center itself and also along the trails. Stop by and visit the permanently injured raptors while picnicking. Visit the website to download a copy of the trail map.

- Merwin Meadows Park 52 Lovers Lane, Wilton. This park has it all: a pond to cool off in, a playground, sports fields/courts and picnic areas. Beginning Memorial Day until the last day of school, the park will be open and staffed weekends only; after June 14 the park will be open seven days a week. Resident and non-resident membership fees or daily charges apply when lifeguard is on duty. Print and fill out the required form before visiting the park.
- Sherwood Island State Park, Westport. If a seaside picnic is what you’re searching for, this public park is your destination. After walking the nature trails the shady picnic benches on the West Side of the park make for a perfect place to relax and nourish your body and soul.
