Gone Fishin'/Huntin'

The CT DEP announces trout-stocking plans and hunting season dates.

Grab your poles and start casting because there are going to be plenty of trout biting in the state's waterways sometime soon.

The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection announced plans recently to release a total of 36,500 trout into eight designated trout parks, as well as a variety of other streams and lakes. This total includes 12,400 large brown trout, 6,100 standard size brown trout, 15,000 standard size rainbow trout, and 3,000 "yearling" brown trout, which are smaller.

The trout parks and rivers were actually stocked last month, while 22 lakes and ponds are slated to receive their catches in mid-October.  Anglers are asked to remember that all fish caught in designated Trout Management Areas must be released, and trout parks have a two-fish-per-day creel limit.
