Update: Alleged Teen Suicide Note and Attempt at Train Station

Update, 4:10 p.m.

According to Wilton Police Lieutenant Don Wakeman, a 17-year-old male resident was reported missing around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police were alerted when the youth apparently "sent some text messages to a friend which resulted in a need to check his well being."

Around 2:30 p.m. he was found walking in Wilton Center. Officers then took him to police headquarters, where he met up with his family.

Wakeman said he was later transported by EMS crew to Norwalk Hospital for further evaluation.

All available police units were dispatched to the Wilton Train Station around 12 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon after a  17-year-old Wilton boy reportedly left a suicide note for his mother and then was reportedly seen near the train station acting suspiciously.

A Metro-North worker, who wished to remain anonymous, said that he and his fellow workers saw a teenager dressed all in tight black clothing walking around the parking lot around noon. He said it "looked like he was going to steal a car or something."

A short time later, the worker said police arrived at the station en mass. Apparently they had been contacted by a Wilton resident saying that her son had left a suicide note and threatened to kill himself by jumping in front of a train. Workers gave police a description of the teen they had seen, who was "really thin, tall, had jet black hair and a black jacket and tight black pants," and who they thought may have been the boy referenced in the note and who police were searching for.

The Metro-North employee said that the boy's mother arrived a short time after police. Around 2:30 p.m., he said he was told police had located the boy south of the train station on Route 7 and the rest of the police units at the station rushed off to the area.

Asked if he saw the boy try to "jump in front of a train," as he reportedly threatened, the worker responded that even if the boy had wanted to, he couldn't have. Trains are not running on the Danbury Branch line today as a result of scheduled maintenance.

Police at the scene around 2 p.m. said they did not have time for comment. Calls and a visit to police headquarters yielded dispatchers saying that all available units and resources were tied up with the investigation.

Approximately five marked and unmarked Wilton police vehicles had an area of the Wilton Train Station parking lot cordoned off as of 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Three fire engines were parked near Portofino's Restauarnt and firefighters said they had heard "a few reports" about a possible suicide, but that police were handling the issue and they could not comment further.
