Marut, Wilton Edge Greenwich

Warriors ace tosses complete-game five-hitter to improve to 6-0.

Wilton's hard-throwing ace Kurt Marut played the role of stopper Monday.

The UConn-bound senior tossed a five-hitter to improve to 6-0 as the Warriors edged Greenwich, 4-3, in a battle of FCIAC contenders.

It was a big win for Wilton (11-3, 10-3), which rebounded from Thursday's 10-4 loss to Staples in which it committed six errors under the lights.

The Warriors managed only three hits off Yuta Okazaki on Monday, but erased a 3-1 deficit with three runs in the sixth.

Scott Young ignited the rally with an RBI double - the only hit of the inning - before Kevin O'Connell and Ed Klukojc added sacrifice flies.

The Cardinals got two runners on in the seventh, but Marut, who threw more than 100 pitches, induced Okazaki to ground out to second to end the contest.

The victory leaves Wilton one game behind Greenwich (12-2, 11-2) in the battle for second place in the FCIAC, and the Warriors now own a tiebreaker advantage over the Cardinals.
