- ‘Twas the night before Christmas
And all through the house
Not a creature was stirring
Not even a mouse.
The patient was placed by the floor with care,
In the hopes that EMS would soon be there.
The Children were nestled all snug in heir beds,
While visions of AEDs danced in their heads.
And Mamma on her cell phone and I on the scene
Had just started chest compressions with 2 breathes in between.
When out on the driveway there arose such a sound
It was as if a diesel engine was coming on down
With lights all flashing and sirens ablaring
I sure hoped the neighbors weren’t starring!
The spotlight on the breast of the new fallen snow
Gave a blinding reflection like the stage of a game show,
When what to my bleary eyes should appear,
But two EMTs who showed no fear,
With a long stretcher lowered by from the back
I knew in a moment in must be WVAC!
More dashing than Chippendales they came in with such care
And I whistled and shouted and called them up the stair!
They spoke not a word, but went straight to their work,
30 compression, 2 breaths and a shock that made the patient jerk.
And laying a finger on the side of the neck
Death had decided to take a rain check.
They flew to the ambulance with the patient on O2,
And away they all drove as I yelled “Thank you”!
Merry Christmas to you
And thank you for all that you do.
Another life saved
By the brave ambulance crew.
