Police Log: Squatters, Dancing with Booze in Water Bottles

The following arrest information was supplied by the Wilton Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010

• Kyle J. Hoffman, 19, of Bridgeport was a passenger in a vehicle which was stopped for a defective brake light. An odor of marijuana was detected emanating from within the vehicle. A search of Hoffman yielded three small bags of suspected marijuana in his pants pocket. Hoffman was arrested for possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and was later released on a PTA. He has an Oct. 22 court date.

Wednesday, Oct. 13

• Police received a complaint from someone who recently purchased a foreclosed-upon home at 157 Deforest Road. Apparently, when the resident arrived at the new home, the previous tenants were still in it. Police said the new owner is now going through the court system to have them evicted. "They bought the home and, apparently, the people that came with it," said Lieutenant Don Wakeman.

Thursday, Oct. 14

• Roy Moss, 56, of Stamford was stopped for talking on his cell phone while driving. During the stop, officers discovered that Moss had an outstanding warrant for a failure to respond to an infraction charge. Moss was taken into custody and released after posting a $60 bond. He apparently received a ticket several years ago for a motor vehicle infraction that he was unaware of. He has an Oct. 25 court date.

Friday, Oct. 15

• George Genvario, 90, of Norwalk and Richard S. Guha, 62, of Weston were involved in a motor vehicle accident. Genvario was traveling north on Chestnut Hill Road and Guha was traveling south on Westport Road. Guha failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Westport Road and Chestnut Hill and as Genvario entered the intersection, Guha struck him head on. Guha was arrested for failure to obey a control signal. Guha was uninjured, but Genvario was transported to the hospital.

• Edward Shtramel, 48, of Stamford was charged with making a false statement in the second degree after he claimed he had been inappropriately touched by a police officer during an arrest in April. You can read more about the story here.

Saturday, Oct. 16

• Police found a small belt bag containing epipens and an oral inhaler on the ground near the Trackside Teen Center. The property was found around 11 p.m. and can be claimed at police headquarters.
• Two 15-year-olds, a male and a female from Wilton, are being investigated for alcohol possession by a minor. Police said there was a dance on Saturday evening at Cider Mill School and an officer working there located two youths, who were in possession of water bottles that were suspected of containing alcohol. Charges are still pending.

Monday, Oct. 18

• Two students on a school van were being transported to a school they attend in Hamden. One student displayed a folding knife to the other and made a threatening comment to that student. The parents of the threatened student reported the incident to the police, but did not want to pursue criminal charges.

Tuesday, Oct. 19

• Nicholas Galella, 23, of Wilton was observed traveling south on Route 8 in the area of Sharp Hill Road. He was traveling 53 mph in a 35 mph zone. Upon being stopped, he was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages prior to driving Galella was unable to perfrom field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. He was found to have a BAC of over twice the legal limit. He was charged with traveling unreasonably fast and operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was later released on a PTA and has a Nov. 1 court date.
