Police Log: UFO and Heroin

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

• Bradley Diskin, 24, of Wilton was arrested as the result of an arrest warrant issued by the Norwalk Superior Court. The arrest stemmed from an incident in February when Diskin's parents expressed concern that their child was involved in drug activity. Diskin was detained at his residence at the time and several bundles of heroin were found in his pocket according to police. He was transported to the hospital to be evaluated and, therefore, not immediately arrested. Officers subsequently applied for and received an arrest warrant for possession of narcotics and and Diskin turned himself in to police on July 27, when he returned from out of state. Diskin posted the court-ordered $5,000 bond and has an August 5 court date.

Wednesday, July 28

• Thomas A. Saja, Jr., 41, of Seymour and Linda Tesser, 70, of Norwalk were involved in a motor vehicle accident on Mollbrook Drive. Both parties, and Saja's passenger Henry Lewis, 39, of Bridgeport were taken by ambulance to the hospital for their injuries. Tesser was later arrested for failure to drive to right.

Friday, July 30

• Derek Winston, 35, of Southport and John Curtin, 22, of Wilton were involved in a motor vehicle accident. Curtin was traveling north on Ridgefield Road when he entered the southbound lane and struck Winston's vehicle head-on. Winston, his passenger Leslie Winston, 39, of Wilton, Curtin, and Curtin's passenger Alison Mapolitano, 20, of Redding were all injured during the accident and taken to a nearby hospital. None of the injuries were reported to be life-threatening. Curtin was arrested for failure to drive right.

Saturday, July 31

• Police received reports of an unidentified low-flying aircraft over Wilton. They had received several similar reports over the last few weeks. It was determined to be a motorized parachute. Read the full story here.

Sunday, August 1

• Spiro Catechis, 43, of Stamford was clocked going 78 mph southbound on Route 7. When he was stopped by police, Catechis failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. Fresh damage was discovered along the entire right side of his care, possibly indicating an earlier accident. Catechis was charged with speeding, DUI and failure to keep right. He was released on a PTA and has an August 12 court date.
• Gregory Mewes, 18, of Norwalk was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for an equipment violation. During the course of the motor vehicle stop, police found Mewes had an active arrest warrant from the Greenwich Police Department. The warrant stemmed from charges of evading responsibility, reckless driving, failure to keep right, and operating to endanger. Mewes was held on $2,500 bond.
