Star 99.9's Anna Zap to Host Weston's Memorial Day 5K Road Race and Kids Fun Run

WESTON, Conn., May 19, 2015 – Star 99.9’s DJ Anna Zap will be at Weston High School this coming Saturday to host the Weston Memorial Day 5K Road Race and Kids Fun Run. In addition to playing lots of music, emcee Zap will entertain and motivate spectators and competitors alike during race preparations, during the race and during post-race celebrations.

Zap promises to keep motivation high as she spins the latest tunes and cheers on competitors as they cross the finish line. Weston race organizers have also arranged live performances by Weston High School student band Acoustic Cubed.

Zap is co-host of the Anna and Raven Show on Star 99.9, Today’s Best Mix -- serving Connecticut and parts of New York. Because she has a lot to say (endless ramblings really), one can read her rantings at CTBoom.com. Whether it’s managing multiple social media accounts, hosting events, creating, editing, voicing commercial spots and radio segments, Zap has it covered.

The Kids Fun Run, which starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, includes a 100-meter sprint, and 400- and 1,600-meter runs around Weston High School’s track. For the first time, the Kid’s Fun Run will feature an inflatable obstacle course with a slide and other challenging endeavors to keep children engaged. Participants from kindergarten through 5th grade will receive a complimentary race-day T-shirt and other giveaways at the event.

The Weston Memorial Day 5K road race and walk, which starts at 8:30 a.m., is a fast, rolling, scenic loop through residential and historic sections of bucolic Weston. It features disposable ChronoTrack bib-tag timing, mile splits, refreshment and water stations on a USA Track & Field certified course. Free race T-shirts will go to the first 500 registrants.

Other free prizes include gift certificates to Sport Center of Connecticut, a night at the Westport Inn, gift cards for Sakura, Cobb’s Mill Inn, Lululemon Athletica, Melissa & Doug, WishList and more.

“To add excitement to an already competitive race, we have invited and registered recent winners from other area races,” said Race Committee Chair Roberto Ordonez. “We know it will be a close call at the finish line. And we hope to see all of Weston and our surrounding neighbors from Westport, Wilton and Fairfield participate in this year’s festivities.”

First, second and third-place winners (male and female) will take home $100, $50 and $25 cash prizes and medals respectively at the end of the race. Additional category winners include Youth (up to 8 years of age, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14); Teens (ages 15-19); Open (ages 20-29); Submaster (ages 30-39); Master (ages 40-49); Grandmaster (ages 50-59); Veteran (ages 60-69); and Invincible (ages 70+).

To avoid long lines on event day, it is suggested to pre-register on Thursday, May 21, and Friday, May 22, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Weston High School cafeteria. Race-day registrations will start at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, at Weston High School, located at 115 School Road in Weston, Conn. 06883.

2015 marks the 22nd year this event has been hosted by Weston High School’s PTO. The PTO allocates proceeds from the event to fund a variety of enhancements to the school curriculum, including computer software, teacher training, and equipment for the arts and athletic programs. In addition to registration fees, corporate and individual donations support the PTO’s mission for quality in education and further enhancement of Weston schools.
