Despite controlling the game for the better part of the first half, missed opportunities came back to haunt the WHS Varsity Boys Soccer team in their opening game.
The Warriors lost their Tuesday evening match against Central 3-0, starting the season off on a frustrating note. Though they led in both shots on goal and saves, they fell and remained behind where it counted most: the score.
"The things that got us today is we didn't capitalize on our chances," Head Coach Jim Lewicki said to his team afterward. "If we had done that, we would have won the game."

Wilton played a strong first half, making several runs down the sidelines and peppering Central's keeper with hard-struck shots. But they couldn't find a way to score and fell behind 1-0 early on.
"They didn't even earn their first goal," Lewicki added. "But they sure earned their second and their third."

Central was, indeed, much stronger in the second half and scored its second goal with 11 minutes left to play. Wagner Colodette put the game away with a penalty kick in the closing minutes, sealing a 3-0 victory.
Wilton had 14 total shots, led by strong play up front by Connor Latella and their goalie staved off nine shots in total. But Central converted more often, despite taking four fewer shots, and their seven saves were enough to keep them ahead.
Jenilo Soares and Reco McLaren also scored for Central.
The Warriors look to rebound at home against Norwalk at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
