Warriors Swim Well

The WHSl girls swim team exceed expectations with a strong showing at Yale University.

Coming in to Saturday afternoon's meet at Yale University's Payne Whitney Gym, the Wilton swimmers were hoping to just be competitive. Instead, every time they posted was better than in the FCIAC finals, and they even set some new school records.

"They were just outstanding," head coach Todd Stevens said of his team. "I'm really pleased to see how well they performed."

Wilton took eighth place overall in the Open, scoring a team total 205 points. Leading the charge for the Warriors was Katie Warburg, who took second in the one meter diving event. Also scoring in the event was Sami Bloom and Kady Holland.

"Diving was huge for us," Stevens said. "Three divers scored - that's very commendable."

The new school record was set by Megan Lattimer, posting a time of 2:14.13 in the 200 yard individual medley. Lattimer also contributed to the successes of the Warrior relay teams, helping them to a fourth place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay along with Caroline Higgins, Caroline O'Brien, and Emily Healey. Wilton also scored with a tenth place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay by the team of Healey, Grace Hendee, Lauren Shea, and Morgan Scarth.

Stevens was thrilled with the success of the team Saturday, and was optimistic about the future despite losing some of the team's leaders.

"We're losing a good group of seniors," he said, "but this was a great way to end the season."
