WILTON, CT — "Free as a Bird?" Not so much.
A wild turkey abandoned the wild for a couple of nights spent cooped up in the Wilton High School Field House, the News-Times has reported.
The noble bird perched in the rafters while its ground-bound would-be captors from both Wilton Animal Control and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, like cartoon coyotes, used up all their tactics to woo it from its roost.

After two days, the confounded turkey-snatchers called upon Bats Be Gone, a private wildlife control company, who netted the beast and released it in the woods behind the school.
How did the turkey thwart security to penetrate deep into the heart of Wilton High School athletics? Officials believe it was not working alone, and are currently looking to identify two students caught on video surveillance footage reportedly leading the bird into its big adventure.
