Wilton Company Unleashes 'World's Fastest Bicycle'

The super-bike is competing in the Tour de France this month.

WILTON, CT -- A Wilton-based company has just released what it claims to be the "the world's fastest road-race bike."

Wilton's Cannondale Bicycle Corporation is debuting its top-of-the-line racer at this year's Tour de France, which kicked off last Saturday and runs through July 29. The bike is the company's first aerodynamic, or "aero," bike: the way the ride is constructed allows the hands and body position of the rider to change given the terrain, rider's preference, and race situation.

The super-bike will be the weapon of choice for the 'EF Education First – Drapac powered by Cannondale' WorldTour cycling team. The American-registered team competes in the highest tiers of the sport.

SystemSix bikes range in price from the $4,000 Carbon Ultegra to the Hi-MOD Dura-Ace Di2, which will set die-hard two-wheeling enthusiasts back $11,000, according to the company's website. The custom SystemSix job debuting at the Tour de France would run you $13,000 if you could buy it, which you can't.

The Cannondale Bicycle Corporation is an American division of Canadian conglomerate Dorel Industries that supplies bicycles. It is headquartered in Wilton, Connecticut with manufacturing and assembly facilities in China and Taichung, Taiwan.
