Wilton Field Hockey Closing In On FCIAC Playoff Spot
Claire Detrick-Yee scores two goals in 7-1 rout of Trumbull on senior night.
The Wilton field hockey team scored four goals in the first half and never looked back en route to a 7-1 victory over Trumbull on Tuesday.
Junior Claire Detrick-Yee scored two goals for the Warriors, who improved to 8-3 and moved closer to clinching a spot in the FCIAC playoffs.
Prior to the start of the game, Wilton coach Diedre Hynes told her team that she wanted them to get off to a good start.

Hynes's club got the message, as it put away the Golden Eagles (1-9-1) early. The victory lifted the Warriors into a tie for second place in the FCIAC with Fairfield-Warde (8-2-0).
"We hit a bump in the road of the middle season," Hynes said. "If we continue to play like we did tonight and like we have over the past couple of games, we should be in good standing at the end of the season."

The Warriors controlled the game from the start of the first half, generating several quality scoring chances on Trumbull sophomore goalkeeper Lily Bower.
Bower was able to keep Wilton off the board until there was 20:17 left, when Yee took a shot from 15 yards out that hit off a Trumbull defender's stick and went over Bower's head.
Three minutes later, the Warriors were at it again when junior Nicole Roman-Johnson took a pass from junior Hannah Riney and fired it past Bower for a 2-0 lead.
Just over six minutes later, Kaczmarczyk took a nice pass from Detrick-Yee and beat Bower with a low shot to the corner of the goal.
"We came out from the start tonight," Hynes said. "Emily Kaczmarczyk and Julianne Tangrey started the push and everyone followed."
By the time Detrick-Yee blasted a shot past Bower from 12-yards out to give the Warriors a 4-0 lead at the end of the half, the Warriors held a 12-0 advantage in shots and controlled every aspect of the game.
"We were great across the board tonight," Hynes said. "It was also nice to see everyone get playing time and do well."
In the second half, the Warriors got goals from junior Christie Roberts and sophomores Annie Lynch and Valentina Tudisco.
Senior goalkeeper Liz Anderson stopped two of three shots before giving way to backup goalkeeper, junior Lindsay Taylor, who stopped one shot.
The Warriors will be back in action this Saturday afternoon when they hit the road to take on Westhill (2-8-0).
