Wilton Fire Commission Names Interim Chief

The appointment will be in effect while the Fire Commission completes its recruitment for a new fire chief and deputy fire chief this fall

WILTON, CT — Fire Commission Chairman Casey Healy announced the appointment of Geoffrey Herald as Wilton Fire Department interim fire chief following a unanimous vote on the appointment by the full Fire Commission. The term of the three-month appointment commences on July 1, and concludes on September 30.

Extensions of the appointment may be made by mutual agreement of the Fire Commission
and Interim Fire Chief Herald. The appointment will be in effect while the Fire Commission completes its recruitment for a new fire chief and deputy fire chief this fall.

Healy said the primary responsibility of the interim fire chief will be to "provide leadership, stability, and continuity of operations to the Fire Department in its time of transition to a new permanent fire chief."

Herald began his career as a member of the Danbury Fire Department in February 1979 after having been a volunteer firefighter for five years. He worked his way up through the ranks to fire chief, a position he held for over seven years prior to his retirement from the Danbury Fire Department.

"Geoff’s extensive firefighting experience in a Fairfield County city combined with his many years of career fire service in a leadership capacity make him a natural fit for the position of interim chief for the Wilton Fire Department," Healy said in a release.
