All told, the Wilton Fire Department responded to 38 incidents during the week of Sept. 20-26.

Of these calls, 26 consisted of the department providing patient care to people in distress and assisting paramedics and EMS staff.  Seven more calls were the result of accidental alarm triggers or alarm system malfunctions, which were all promptly resolved.

On Sept. 20, however, the fire department assisted with a sizeable blaze in Westport, as Wilton was called in to provide manpower and equipment aid to the structure fire.

There were also three incidents of smoke and small fires around town, two of which were residents burning trash, wood, and other unauthorized debris in their yards. The Fire Department stresses that people familiarize themselves with the regulations governing debris burning and strictly abide by them to avoid dangerous situations.

And in more light-hearted news, Wilton firemen rescued a cat from a tree on Sept. 26 from a height of about 15 feet. The cat is said to be recovering well.
