Wilton First Selectwoman Announces Run for Second Term

Vanderslice says that the quality of life in Wilton improved during her first term

WILTON, CT — First Selectwoman Lynne Vanderslice has announced she will be running for a second term.

In a media release, Vanderslice touted the reduction in the cost of town operations, and what she described as increased efficiency, transparency and responsiveness in the local government during her first term. These were among "a series of promises to Wilton’s voters" that Vanderslice said she has made while working with town employees and the Board of Selectmen. Other fulfilled pledges cited include:

  • Increased economic investment with a focus on housing diversity;
  • Environmental improvements, such as the elimination of crumb rubber infill turf, and the implementation of a plan to meet 70 percent of municipal and school building energy needs through renewable sources, and a partnership with Trout Unlimited to ensure the health of the Norwalk River;
  • The formation of public-private partnerships to fund new and/or improved amenities, including the chess park, future turf replacements, and the ongoing development of plans for Schneck’s Island and Merwin Meadows;
  • Collaboration with the Board of Education to reduce their costs, including energy, facilities, and finance administration; and
  • Implementation of senior and prescription drug discount programs, and funding the state senior tax credit program after funding was eliminated by the state.

Vanderslice says that the quality of life in Wilton improved during her first term as a result of acceleration of road repairs, enforcement of blight, and the return of summer concerts to town parks.

"Throughout, I have been a pragmatic problem solver, building consensus among people of differing views and backgrounds," Vanderslice wrote in the release. "My leadership and my willingness to stand up for Wilton’s best interests were demonstrated during Aquarion’s attempt to remove up to one million gallons per day from their Cannondale well, the school regionalization proposals, and the winter storm of 2018."
