Wilton Girls Basketball Upsets Darien In State Tournament

Maddy Fulton scores 17 points for Warriors in 34-28 victory over the Blue Wave

Based on the way it played down the stretch, the Wilton girls basketball figured to be a tough out in the state tournament.

The Warriors proved it Monday, rallying from a 10-point halftime deficit to upset 14th-seeded Darien 34-28 on the road.

Maddy Fulton scored 17 points for Wilton, which will play at No. 3 seed Torrington in the second round Thursday. Casey Pearsall added 10 points for the winners.

Meg Marren scored 17 points for Darien (13-9), helping the Blue Wave build their 21-11 halftime lead. However, she was limited to only three points in the second half.

After a 3-7 start, the Warriors won eight of their final 10 regular-season games. One of those defeats was a 49-44 setback to FCIAC runner-up Ridgefield that knocked Wilton out of the FCIAC playoffs.

Meanwhile, the Wilton girls hockey team fell 6-3 to North Haven-Amity on Monday in the state quarterfinals despite a hat trick from Lara Schnitzler.

Making their first appearance in the state tournament, the Warriors finished the year at 14-6.
