Swimming for the Wilton Wahoos, Maddie Smart just missed a top-10 finish Tuesday in the women's 100-meter freestyle at U.S. junior national championships. Smart qualified for the finals, then finished 11th with a time of 57.05.

In the men's 200-meter backstroke, Robert Harder of the Wahoos finished 23rd with a time of 2.05.65.

The junior national championships continue through Friday in Palo Alto, Calif.

Christian Higgins is the top seed in the 100-meter breaststroke with a qualifying time if 1:02.90. It is one of his three races in the junior nationals as he also is entered in the 400 IM and the 200 IM.

Harder also is competing in the 100 backstroke, the 200 meters, the 200 freestyle, the 400 freestyle and the 800 freestyle.

Eric Ronda is entered in the 100 breaststroke, the 200 breaststroke the 400 freestyle and the 800 freestyle. Samuel Delise will be swimming in the 200 IM and the 400 IM.

On the women's Kate Luchansky is entered in the 50 free, the 100 freestyle, the 400 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. Madeline Smart will be competing in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and the 200 freestyle.

The Wahoos have a total of six competitors in the junior nationals.

In the senior nationals championships on Saturday, Ronda (2:15.96) and Higgins (2:18.76) finished 19th and 20th, respectively, in the 200-meter breaststroke.
