Thegirls basketball team is serving early notice that it may be a force with which to be reckoned in the FCIAC this season.

Casey Pearsall scored 15 of her 23 points in the second half as the Warriors rallied from a nine-point deficit in the second half to defeat New Canaan 57-52 on Friday night at the Zeoli Field House.

Maddie Fulton and Erin Cunningham each had 10 points for the Warriors, who improved to 2-0.

Sarah Mannelly had 16 points to pace New Canaan, which reached the FCIAC semifinals last season. The Rams dropped to 1-1

With Wilton trailing 51-50,  Pearsall hit two free throws with 36 seconds remaining to put the Warriors ahead for good.

Wilton is back in action on Wednesday at Fairfield Ludlowe.

The Wilton girls hockey team picked a tough opponent against whom to open the season as the Warriors dropped an 8-0 decision on Saturday to Simsbury, the defending Connecticut Girls Hockey League champion.

Vanessa Pagano made 53 saves for the Warriors, who are back in action on Monday against Greenwich.
