Wilton's Alex Ward won the long jump Thursday at the FCIAC indoor track championship at the Floyd Little Center in New Haven.
Ward posted a winning leap of 21 feet, 10 inches, edging Darien's Nicholas Lombardo by 2 1/2 inches for the gold.

Staples won the overall team title for the first time since 2006 as the Wreckers ended Danbury's five-year reign as FCIAC champions.
Danbury finished second, followed by Greenwich, New Canaan and Trumbull. Wilton was 10th.

The girls basketball team matched Trumbull by routing Bassick 63-11 on Thursday at the Zeoli Field House.
Trumbull outscored the winless Lions 32-0 in the second half en route to a 71-11 victory on Tuesday. Wilton allowed just three points in the second half Thursday after building a 37-8 halftime lead.
With Thursday's contest never in doubt, all 11 players on the Wilton roster played and scored, led by Erica Meyer with 15 points.
Maddy Fulton and Erin Cunningham each scored 10 points for the Warriors and Cori Cannavino added nine
Bouncing back from Tuesday's 53-48 loss to Staples in which it was outscored 12-0 over the final three minutes, Wilton improved to 11-4 overall and 11-3 in the FCIAC.
Wilton, which had won five in a row before the loss to Staples, moved back into first place in the FCIAC East, one-half game ahead of St. Joseph.
Bassick fell to 0-16 and is four games away from a winless season.

After having its three-game winning streak snapped by Staples on Tuesday, the Wilton boys basketball team is back in action on Friday when they Warriors head to Brideport to face Bassick (7 p.m.).
The Warriors dropped to 6-7 following Tuesday's 54-51 setback to the Wreckers and still need two wins to secure their first state tournament berth since 1999.
While Wilton has a winnable game next Tuesday against Darien, beating Bassick will be difficult.
The Lions have top player Demetrius Thomas, who had been academically ineligible back in the lineup, and they are stillthe defending FCIAC champions.
Bassick had a fourth-quarter lead against undefeated and top-ranked St. Joseph on Monday before falling to the Cadets 70-61 in the Harbor Yard Classic.
The Lions rebounded on Tuesday to pound Trumbull, 77-40. Thomas scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Bassick, which who improved to 11-3.

The deadline for the Connecticut Sports Writers’ Alliance Bohdan Kolinsky Memorial Journalism Scholarship is Monday, Feb. 6.
The scholarship is open to Connecticut high school seniors who aspire to careers in sports journalism. Named for the longtime scholastic sports editor of the Hartford Courant who passed away in 2003, the award provides the winner $1,000 for freshman-year college study and a chance to receive increased aid in succeeding years by meeting certain standards
