Suddenly entertaining hopes of making the state tournament, the Wilton boys basketball team goes for its third straight win on Thursday when the Warriors host Trumbull (7 p.m.).
The Warriors have won back-to-back games in overtime, including Tuesday's 67-58 victory over McMahon, to improve to 5-6.
Chris Nugent and Max Maudsley and Weston Wilbur each added 12 points in the win over McMahon.
Wilton needs to win three of its final eight games to qualify for postseason play after going 2-18 last season. The Warriors' remaining schedule is not easy with games left against Bassick, Bridgeport Centrl and Westhill.
Still, Wilton also has to play Darien and New Canaan. Assuming wins over those teams, Wilton would sneak in with one other victory after going 2-18 last season.
Of course, beating Trumbull won't be easy, as the Eagles (6-5) are coming off an impressive 66-58 victory over Norwalk.
The Wilton girls basketball visits defending FCIAC champion Trumbull in a 7:15 p.m. start.
The Warriors are closing in an FCIAC playoff spot, having won four in a row, including Tuesday's 69-43 victory over Trumbull.
Wilton (9-2, 9-3) is fourth in the FCIAC standings and one-half game behind first-place St. Joseph in the East Division.
Trumbull (12-1, 10-1) is battling undefeated Danbury (13-0, 11-0) for the top seed in next month's FCIAC playoffs.
