The Wilton White fourth grade football team rallied for a 15-8 victory over New Canaan in the semifinals of the Fairfeld County Football League playoffs.
Midway through the second quarter, Wilton trailed 8-0 and New Canaan had a 1st-and-goal at the 2-yard line. A goalline stand, however, sparked the comeback as Wilton improved to 10-0 and shared a co-championship with Wilton Blue, which defeated New Canaan earlier in the day.

In a flashback to the tight regular-season contest between these two teams, New Canaan struck early with an impressive 57-yard touchdown run on the game’s third play. The two-point conversion was good, putting the Warriors in an early hole.
The Warriors' offensive line of Erik Lebek, Dean Griffin, Eric Zhang, Stephen Kendra, D.J. DiCostanzo, Trent Hollings and Cooper Heinemann went right to work, paving the way in a 10-play drive highlighted by Drew Phillips’ 14 yard scamper on 4th-and-6 to keep the drive alive

But the Rams were up to the challenge, forcing and recovering a fumble at their own 25 to end the drive.
The Warrior defense, led by Patrick Coulter, Nick Sheehan, Oliver Shulman, Tate Falta, Jack Santomero, Griffin Morris, Hollings and Heinemann prevented the big play on New Canaan’s next possession, but slowly ceded territory.
After the Rams drove to the Wilton 2, the Warriors were facing a two-score deficit for the first time this season, but tackle Hollings made the first of many big plays, burying the ball carrier for a 5-yard loss.
On 3rd-and-6, Heinemann read the bootleg attempt and dropped the quarterback for another 5-yard loss. Wilton eventually forced a turnover on down, changing the momentum.
With four minutes to play in the half, Phillips, Austin Andersen, Niko Kouvaris and Ryan Healey took turns running the ball. Phillips completed a pass to Heinemann, but the Warriors ran out of time at the New Canaan 14, leaving the score 8-0 at the half.
Fired up by coaches Phillips and LaManna in the locker room, the Warriors came out strong in the third quarter.
Phillips and Andersen took turns eating up yards with quick dives through holes opened by the offensive line. At the New Canaan 29, Phillips took a handoff from Healey and refused to go down and boke several tackles on his way to the 8-yard line.
On 1st-and-goal, Andersen bulled his way to the one-foot line and then scored easily on the next play to close the gap to 8-6. With an amazing second effort, Phillips lunged across the goal line on the two point conversion try to knot the game at 8-8.
Having no luck on the ground, New Canaan took to the air on the next series but great coverage by linebacker Cole Stephenson and defensive backs Matt Lamanna and Dominick Caratazzolo forced the quarterback to throw into the flat, where linebacker Austin Andersen make a leaping interception.
Wilton took over at the New Canaan 20, and three runs by Phillips resulted in a 1st-and-goal at 4. Andersen then took a handoff and burst into the end zone for the go-ahead score. Phillips added the conversion to make it 15-8.
After the teams traded possession, the game ended when Wilton took a knee at New Canaan's 9-yard line.
Bring on the mighty Darien Blue Wave.
The fourth-seeded Wilton field hockey team defeated No. 5 New Fairfield 1-0 Monday in the quarterfinals of the Class M state tournament.
The win sets up a meeting with top seed and four-time state champion Darien in the semifinals on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at New Canaan. The Blue Wave needed overtime to get past Guilford 2-1 on Monday.
During the regular season, Wilton dropped a 4-1 decision to Darien on Oct. 19, one of its three losses three season.
The Warriors also were beaten by Stamford, then fell to Staples in the FCIAC finals. Staples snapped Darien's 93-game unbeaten streak in the FCIAC semifinals.
In one of the wildest state tournament games in recent memory, the Wilton boys soccer team suffered a 6-4 overtime loss to top seed Wethersfield in a Class L second-round contest on Monday
The game featured 10 goals, including three in the final minute of regulation, as the momentum swung back and forth.
After Wilton tied the game on a goal by Evan Owen's goal with 53 seconds left, Wethersfield appeared to score the game-winner 10 seconds later.
Amazingly the Warriors pulled even again as David Brown scored on a penalty kick with 0.2 seconds left.
But Wethersfield scored twice in the first overtime and held on to advance to Wednesday's quarterfinal against No. 8 Brookfield, which defeated Wilbur Cross 3-1 Monday.
Kyle Dedrick and Brown tallied in the first half to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead. Peter Como had 18 saves for Wilton despite allowing the six goals.
The 16th-seeded Warriors concluded the year at 10-7-2.
