After giving up a tying goal late in the second overtime, the Wilton girls soccer team regrouped to defeat No. 3 Westhill 3-2 on penalty kicks Wedesday in the quarterfinals of the FCIAC playoffs in Stamford.
The sixth-seeded Warriors (9-3-5) bested the Vikings 4-2 in the penalty kicks as Megan Boepple, JJ Monro, Alyssa Malvarosa and Colleen Deardoff scored on their attempts. Wilton advanced to take on Greenwich in Thursday's semifinals.
In Wednesday's other quarterfinals, top seed St. Joseph defeated No. 8 Trumbull 2-1 and No. 7 seed Fairfield Warde upset No. 2 New Canaan, 1-0. The Cadets and Mustangs will square off in the other semifinal.

Aleksandra Maciejewski gave Westhill a 1-0 lead late in the first half but Tegan Helms tied the game 1-1 late in the second half to force overtime.
Casey Pearsall put the Warriors ahead 2-1 in the second overtime but Westhill (11-2-4) tied when Nicole Erikson's converted a penalty kick with under two minutes remaining.

The Wilton field hockey team also advanced to the FCIAC semifinals with a 4-0 win over Fairfield Ludlowe on Wednesday.
Valentina Tudisco scored two goals and Joanne Nazareth and Hannah Riney each had one for the second-seeded Warriors (12-2-0-0), who will take on No. 6 New Canaan in the semifials on Thursday at 7 p.m. at New Canaan. The Rams advanced with a 1-0 upset win over No. 3 Norwalk.
In Wednesday's other quarterfinals, top seed Darien scored three goals in the second half to defeat No. 8 Westhill 3-0 and No. 4 Staples edged No. 5 Stamford, 2-1. Darien and Staples will meet in the first semifinal on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Ludlowe.
The CIAC has announced that the state Open cross country meet, scheduled for Friday at Manchester's Wickham Park, has been postponed until next Tuesday.
The site of the meet also has been changed as the girls and boys races now will be take place at at Hammonasset State Park in Madison. The boys will start at 1:45 p.m., followed by the girls at 2:30 p.m.
The Darien boys (Class L) and the Ridgefield and Wilton girls (Class LL and Class L, respectively) won class championships on Saturday at Wickham Park, which is unavailable for the state Open because of damage it suffered in Saturday's snowstorm.
The Open competition will determine which runners qualify for the New England championships Nov. 12 at Ponaganset High School in North Scituate, R.I.
