Wilton Scores and Standings, Nov. 4

Clare Detrick-Yee scored with 13 minutes remaining in the first half Thursday as No. 2 Wilton advanced to the FCIAC field hockey finals with a 1-0 win over No. 6 New Canaan.

The goal came after Valentina Tudisco took Wilton's fifth penalty corner of the first half and passed on the stick Detrick-Yee, who beat New Canaan goalkeeper Britt Gardella.

Wilton (16-2) will be seeking its first field hockey title in school history on Saturday when the Warriors take on Staples in the final at McMahon at 4 p.m.

In Thursday's first game, Staples stunned Darien 1-0, ending the Blue Wave's 93-game unbeaten streak, which had been the third-longest in high school field hockey history.

The Wilton football team looks to snap a four-game losing streak on Saturday when the Warriors host Westhill in a 2 p.m.

Wilton (2-4) put up a good fight last week before falling to undefeated New Canaan 28-14. Matt Milano threw three TD passes for the Rams, giving him 23 for the season.

Quarterback Sean Carroll returned for the Warriors after missing a game with a concussion and accounted for both a Wilton's scores with a pair of TD runs.

Westhill enters Saturday's contest at 0-7 following Monday's 41-7 loss at Greenwich.

Assuming a win over Westhill, next week's contest could against Fairfield Warde, which is 4-3, will determine if the Warriors have a chance for a winning season heading into the traditional Thanksgiving finale against Trinity Catholic. 

The CIAC announced Thursday it has postponed the start of its state tournaments to allow  extra time for conferences to complete their own playoff tournaments.

State tournaments in soccer, field hockey, volleyball and swimming, scheduled to start on Monday, now will be begin Thursday. Pairings will be announced Wednesday.

Volleyball and field hockey state championship games now will take place Nov. 18-19. Girls and boys soccer championship games will be played the following weekend.
