deBeer Lacrosse and Gait Lacrosse,  subsidiaries of global consumer products company Jarden Corporation, has announced their partnership with Wilton Lacrosse Association to support the “1st Stick Program” designed to give first grade boys and girls in Wilton their first lacrosse stick free.

deBeer and Gait will be donating 100 youth lacrosse sticks to first-raders in Wilton to introduce the sport of lacrosse to children in an effort to grow the game of lacrosse.  Steve Flanagan, president of Wilton Lacrosse Association developed the program and  will work with Gait and deBeer Lacrosse to introduce lacrosse to the first-graders of Wilton this fall.

“We wanted to accomplish two things with this effort:  first to help first-graders and their parents get started with lacrosse by providing them a free high quality stick and second to build our lacrosse playing base in town," Flanagan said.

"We believe we accomplish both objectives with this effort. We are also thrilled that a respected manufacturer like deBeer & Gait would step up and partner with us  for the next three years on this program."

“We are very excited to announce this partnership,”  marketing director Justin Cutter said. “Wilton Lacrosse is a very successful program that is driven to grow the game of lacrosse in their town at a very high level. Wilton will help play an important role in getting the deBeer and Gait brands further out to the youth market as lacrosse continues to grow like wildfire throughout Connecticut and the  United States."

The Wilton boys U-9 Gold soccer team defeated Norwalk 6-2 in its final home game of the season on Sunday to remain unbeaten.

Sam Strazza, who was used at forward, demonstrated deft ball skills, resulting in two goals. Windate Brichowski, Ryan Johnson, Jack Rosen, Max Greenberg and Owen Steckel kept the offensive pressure high from midfield through strategic passing, adroit defensive maneuvers and shots on goal. Jack Rosen and Greenberg each scored as well.

The defensive skills of Sam Rosen, Oliver Dahlen and Quinn O'Connor, along with the swift efforts of Aidan Shannon in goal, kept Norwalk scoreless in the first half, allowing Wilton to build a 4-0 lead.

The second half opened up with O'Connor at forward, and he continued the offensive pressure with a goal. The midfielders were relentless with clever defensive steals and challenging shots on goal.

Norwalk managed to put two balls in the net despite nice defensive work by the team and a number of saves by Strazza.

The final scoring play of the game for Wilton was a neatly placed cross by Owen Steckel to Brichowski, who jammed it into the net.

John Stanley and Nick Mancuso were absent from Sunday's game but will rejoin the team.
