The Wilton girls U-11 Blue soccer team shut out all four of its opponents in the Rocky Hill tournament over the weekend.
Wilton Blue 5, Berlin 0
Wilton’s first game against Berlin demonstrated the team’s ballhandling and passing skills. Isabella King delivered a beautiful pass to Alex Brichkowski, who found the net early in the game. Shortly thereafter, Kaitlin Reif sent the ball to Katie Pruden to score the team’s second goal.
The group continued its offensive push in the second half with Delia Freliech punching the ball into the net, and Ally Dejana drilling the fourth and fifth goals of the game. The game featured solid play by goalies Phoebe Beshlian and Carly Sullivan, defenders Bridgette Wall and Shannon Keefe and midfielder Mackenzie McCormick throughout the contest.
Wilton Blue 6, Wethersfield 0
In the second match, against Wethersfield, Witlon came out strong. With Paige Keating anchoring the team in goal, Wilton quickly got on the board when Keefe's shot was deflected by the goalie and put in by Dejana, who also scored Wilton's second goal after a beautiful throw-in by Brichkowski.
Next, Reif blasted a shot at goal and Keefe was able to score on the rebound. At the end of the half, Sullivan made a great assist to Brichkowski, who found the back of the net to make it 4-0. Reif and Keefe scored in the second half.
Wilton Blue 1, Newington 0
In the third game of the tournament, Wilton's offense was aggressively pressuring Newington from whistle to whistle, controlling the ball throughout the game. There were many near misses, but the first half ended scoreless.
Freliech's corner kick set up Keefe, who scored the game's only goal with Wilton continuing to apply pressure in the second half.
Wilton Blue 2, Cromwell 0
In the final match against Connecticut Cup rival Cromwell, Wilton completed its 4-0 run in the tournament as Dejana scored both goals. Wilton generated a number of scoring attempts with Dejana, Keefe, McCormick and Beshlian driving toward the goal.
The stalwart defense of King, Wall and Freliech, along with goalies Keating and Beshlian, thwarted Cromwell's aggressive offense.
Midway through the first half. Keefe passed to Dejana, who opened the scoring. In the second half, Wall had a long, high boot into the offensive end, where Dejana managed to keep track of the ball in a swarm of Cromwell defenders and kick it past the goalie.
