The Wilton football team looks to bounce back from its latest loss to Ridgefield when the Warriors visit McMahon on Friday in a 7 p.m. kickoff.

After opening the season three wins, Wilton suffered a 47-20 setback to Ridgefield last week, falling to 0-16-1 in its last 17 games against the Tigers. The contest was close at halftime with Ridgefield holding a 20-13 lead, but the Warriors were outscored 27-7 in the second half.

Now Wilton will be facing a 1-3 McMahon team that has been snakebit in the early part of the season, having suffered back-to-back heartbreaking losses.

Last week, New Canaan rallied from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to stun the Senators, 36-33.

The wek before, McMahon was in position to beat another FCIAC power, holding a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter against Staples. However, the Wreckers rallied for 17 points over the final seven minutes to stun the Senators 24-21 on a game-winning field goal with three seconds remaining.

Former Wilton lacrosse star Mike Francia, who graduated as the school's all-time leading scorer, will be honored as the town's Sport Persons of the Year at the Fairfield County Sports Commission's seventh annual Sports Night awards dinner.

The dinner is set for Monday at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich at 6 p.m., and tickets are still available at $125 apiece.

Currently a freshman at Villanova, Francia helped lead the Warriors to their first state championship since 2004. In the semifinals of the Class M tournament, Wilton upset perennial power Darien 11-3, then defeated New Canaan in the final, 12-2.

Francia, who had four goals and two assists, finished his career with 329 points (206 goals and 123 assists) as a four-year starter. He earned all-state and all-American honors for the second straight year.

WTNH-Channel 8 sports director Noah Finz, a Greenwich resident, is the emcee for the evening. The newest members of the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame and 15 Sports Persons of the Year from county communities will be recognized.

Sports personalities slated to attend are former Yankees pitcher Tommy John, ex-NY Giants football player Bob Hyland, Lowes Moore, who played with the New Jersey Nets, former world boxing champion Travis Simms and Wes Matthews, a two-time NBA champion with the LA Lakers.
