Wilton Softball Rallies For Five Runs In Bottom Of Seventh To Stun Ridgefield
The thrilling 7-6 victory keeps the Warriors in the thick of the FCIAC playoff race
The Academy Award for best original screenplay goes to the Wilton Warriors softball team, as Hollywood producers could not have put together a better show had they written the script.
On a wet and soggy senior night, it was Wilton seniors Heather Sabino and Shannon Breslin who wrote a storybook ending, helping the Warriors rally for five runs in the bottom of the seventh to stun Ridgefield 7-6 on Monday.
Amy Salvato led off the seventh with a single before Sabino and Nicole Roman-Johnson followed with hits to load the bases.

Ridgfield pitcher Emily Spicci then faced Dani Miskinis in what was longest at-bat of the night. Miskinis faced 14 pitches, fouling off eight before earning a walk to force in a run.
Spicci was then relieved by Amelia Romero, who issued two more walks that pulled the Warriors within 6-5.

Spicci returned, getting Melissa Cugno to ground into a 1-2-3 double play that left runners on second and third. Breslin then came to the plate with the game on the line.
Spicci reached a count of 2-2, leaving her one strike away from a Ridgefield victory.
Breslin fouled off the next pitch, producing a collective sigh from both benches.
However, Breslin stroked a seeing-eye single into right field on the next pitch to plate the tying and winning runs for the Warriors.
Wilton improved to 10-6 in league play, staying in the thick of the FCIAC playoff race. Ridgefield dropped to 8-8 in the FCIAC and likely was eliminated from the playoff chase.
