Wilton Sports Roundup: Feb. 20

Your interactive daily digest for all Wilton scores, schedules and standings -- and a place to add information and images for all youth sports

Looking forward to its first state tournament appearance since 2000, the Wilton High School boys basketball team has a chance to finish the regular season with a winning record.

To do that, the Warriors (9-9, 7-9) must win their remaining two games - Monday at Westhill and Wednesday at New Canaan.

Westhill, however, is one of the FCIAC's hottest teams and already has clinched a playoff spot. The Vikings (13-5, 12-4) have won nine of their last 10 games, including Wednesday's 85-83 overtime victory over Norwalk.

Even if Wilton doesn't beat Westhill, it would have a chance for a 10-10 finish with a win over New Canaan, and that still would be a dramatic improvement following last year's 2-18 season. Wilton is coming off a solid 59-53 victory over Bridgeport Central on Wednesday.

Technically, the Warriors are still alive for an FCIAC playoff spot, but they need numerous things to break right to have a chance.

The Wilton boys hockey team (10-9, 8-3) climbed into fourth place in the FCIAC standings with Saturday's 2-0 win over Trinity Catholic with one game remaining in the regular season.

The Warriors (16 points) are two points ahead of Trinity Catholic (7-4), Fairfield (7-4) and New Canaan (7-4), who all tied for fifth. The top six teams make the tier one playoffs under the FCIAC's new postseason format.

Wilton, which has won 10 of 12 following an 0-7 start, concludes its regular season on Monday at New Canaan.
