Wilton Y Wahoos Close With Record Breaking Season

Wilton CT, September 13, 2014 –

1 USA National Junior Team member, 21 Individual CT state records, 8 relay CT state records, 7 USA Swimming Scholastic All Americans and 13 CT Swimming Scholar Athletes. 21 swimmers have moved onto colleges across the nation.

At the end of the summer 2014, the Wilton Y Wahoos close with another record-breaking season. Ian Rainey, now a freshman at the University of Michigan, concluded his Wahoo age group swimming career by being selected as a member of the National Junior Team. Only 6 athletes in each event are selected nationwide. Ian was selected for his
performance in the 400 Meter IM. Head Coach Randy Erlenbach comments, “We are very proud of what Ian has
accomplished this year and it is credited to his commitment to hard work every day.”

A total of 21 CT state records were broken, as well as 8 relay records. CT swimming holds 2 types of records: State and
Resident. State records are set within the state of Connecticut while resident records are set by Connecticut swimmers
anywhere in the country and around world. State records were set individually by: Kylee Perry (50 Free), Stephen Holmquist (200 IM), and Ian Rainey (1500 Free and 400 IM). Relay state records were broken by: Tommy Kealy, Stephen Holmquist, Max Dolan, and Ian Rainey (800 Free Relay) and Ian Rainey, Sam DeLise, Tommy Kealy, and Max Dolan (400 Medley Relay).

Resident records were broken individually by: Kylee Perry (50 Free), Ian Rainey (800 Free and 400 IM), and Stephen Holmquist (1500 Free). Relay resident records were set by: Tommy Kealy, Stephen Holmquist, Max Dolan, and Ian Rainey (800 Free Relay), Ian Rainey, Sam DeLise, Tommy Kealy, and Max Dolan (400 Medley Relay), Chelsea Pond, Verity Abel, Emma Holmquist, and Kylee Perry (200 Free Relay), and by Max Dolan, Hugo Sykes, Lexo Walker, and Tommy Kealy (800 Free Relay).

USA Swimming Scholastic All-America status is a combination of GPA and time standards. Among those are Wahoo
swimmers: Verity Abel, Samantha Cheruk, Kiersten Daly, Sam DeLise, Emma Holmquist, Stephen Holmquist, and Ed Stolarski.

In addition, CT Swimming posts their scholar athletes adding to the Wahoo list: Megan Contarino, Dillon DiGuglielmo, Divya Ganugapati, Courtney Gilroy, Simon Ginsberg, Alex Ignatov, Patricia Kohn, Megan Lafond, Dakota Meyer, Mira Patel, Elizabeth Sargent, Sapir Shoshan, Daniel Solinsky, and Renee Varga.

The 21 swimmers graduated are: Jack Abbott (Catholic University), Verity Abel (Duke), Hannah Armstrong (Gettysburg),
Callum Breene (University of Rochester), Miles Buroker (USC, Southern Cal), Sam Carley (RPI), Brandon Cole (UConn), Sam DeLise (Georgetown), Max Dolan (Wisconsin), Chris Hume (Notre Dame), Tommy Kealy (William & Mary), Trevor Kratz (Avon Old Farms), Dan Krentsa (UConn), Gabby LeBlanc (BC), Bobby McDowell (Keane State), Stephanie Moriarty (Amhearst), Brenna Nimkoff (Dickinson), Chelsea Pond (Liberty), Ian Rainey (Michigan), Andrew Rowland (Gaucher), and Alyssa Storino (Notre Dame).
