Wilton's Brian Murphy Loses First-Round Match At State Amateur

Beaten by 18-year-old Blake Morris, the youngest player in the tournament

Wilton's Brian Murphy was beaten, 2 and 1, by Blake Morris of the host Country Club of Waterbury in his first-round match Wednesday in the 108th Connecticut State Amateur golf championship.

Murphy, who plays out of Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield, entered match play as the No. 3 seed after shooting a 4-under 135 during the 36-hole stroke play portion of the tournament. But he was beaten by the youngest player in the field.

The 18-year-old Morris also won his second-round match Wednesday afternoon to advance to Thursday's quarterfinals.
