No Leeway for Chivalry or Romance at Shelton High School
The punishment should fit the crime.
Shelton High School senior James Tate just wanted to ask his friend, Sonali Rodrigues, to the senior prom. However, James did not want to "just ask Sonali on a date"- he wanted her to feel special when he did it. Therefore, instead of texting he formulated a plan and enlisted the help of two of his friends to pull it off. Sometime during the night Thursday, Tate and his two friends went to the high school and, using 12-inch cardboard letters they cut out and painted white, posted a message on the outside of the building that read:
"Sonali Rodrigues, Will you go to the prom with me? Tate."
Imagine Sonali’s surprise when she and the rest of the students at Shelton High arrived to school Friday morning. She probably felt like Kate Middleton must have felt as she was walking down the aisle to meet her prince in waiting. Unfortunately, Shelton High headmaster Beth Smith was not impressed by James’ impetuous idea. So she is forbidding him attending the prom. Evidently, Ms. Smith thinks James trespassed on school grounds and his actions were “dangerous”. Seriously?

Ok, so maybe James got a little carried away – but guilty of trespass and dangerous behavior and keeping him from his senior prom? What does Ms. Smith plan to do next beat up homeless puppies?
