​WHOW to Host Food Collection at Town Green Concert

From Soll PR: Next Thursday, August 10th, the Windsor Houses of Worship (WHOW) civic association will host a collection drive for the Windsor Food & Fuel Bank during a concert on the Windsor Town Green on Broad Street. The performance is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and people can bring lawn chairs or blankets. The family and staff of Carmon Community Funeral Homes will present the free “Farmington Valley Band” concert as part of the Windsor Town Green concert series presented by the Windsor Chamber of Commerce and First Town Downtown.

WHOW, comprised of members of Windsor’s faith-based institutions, is holding the summer collection to remind the public that food donations for hungry people are needed all year long, and not just during the November-December holidays.

Concert-goers can bring canned and boxed nonperishable food items and several types of personal care products to WHOW volunteers located at the Carmon Community Funeral Homes table on the grass near the stage. The Windsor Food & Fuel Bank reports its most needed items include: peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti sauce & pasta, macaroni and cheese, canned meats, crackers, cereal, baked beans, canned vegetables, canned fruit, fruit juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate, and condiments such as ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise. The Food Bank also seeks personal care items such as paper towels, facial tissues, toilet paper, and diapers and baby wipes. The Windsor Food & Fuel Bank is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization. The Farmington Valley Band was organized in 1944 by Fred Widen, a longtime Collinsville native. It was an extension of the earlier Collinsville Boys Band, in which he had been a tuba player. Fred was the driving force behind the Canton Historical museum as well, with his extensive collection of Collins-related artifacts.
