Windsor Students Celebrate Fitness with Final Mile Event
Students complete final mile of a cumulative marathon at HMF FitKids in School event

On Tuesday, over 300 central Connecticut area students gathered for the HMF FitKids in School inaugural Spring "Final Mile" event at Walnut Hill Park in New Britain. The participants included 55 students from Windsor’s Sage Park Middle School.
The Hartford Marathon Foundation's HMF FitKids in School program is designed to encourage a healthy, active lifestyle inelementary and middle school students. This is the first year Hartford Marathon Foundation (HMF) has expanded to offer the program in the spring, thanks to a grant from the Aetna Foundation. Last fall, nearly 2,400 students from across the state participated in the fall Final Mile Event, held at Rentschler Field.
Throughout the program, students ran before, during or after school to accumulate 12 or 25 miles. The "Final Mile" celebrated the completion of their marathon (26.2 miles) or half-marathon (13.1 miles) distance goals.
Each student received a medal as they crossed the finish line to celebrate their accomplishment. Following the run, students participated in the World of Fitness Expo, which included interactive fitness activities and demonstrations.
Transportation, reusable water bottles, healthy snacks and t-shirts were provided free to participating schools. For more information on HMF FitKids or to participate as a volunteer at the next Final Mile Event on October 25, visit HartfordMarathon.com.
