EAST WINDSOR, CT — A 32-year-old Granby man was seriously hurt early Tuesday after he was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 91 North in East Windsor, according to state police.
The crash happened around 2:40 a.m. near Exit 45, state police said.
The pedestrian was taken by East Windsor EMS to Hartford Hospital with suspected serious injuries, according to an accident summary.
State police said the man had been driving on I-91 North when he stopped his vehicle in the left lane, facing the wrong way, to retrieve property that had fallen off the vehicle.
The state police summary does not identify the make or model of the vehicle the pedestrian had been driving.
While the pedestrian was outside that vehicle, he was hit by a 2023 Kia Sorento traveling north, state police said.

The Kia was driven by a 22-year-old man from Springfield, Massachusetts, according to state police. He reported arm pain but refused medical treatment.
The Warehouse Point Fire District said firefighters were called around 2:45 a.m. to I-91 North between Exits 44 and 45. East Windsor Ambulance, East Windsor police and the Broad Brook Fire Department also responded, according to the fire district.
Fire officials said a Life Star helicopter was requested but later canceled.
State police said the Kia and the vehicle the pedestrian had been driving were both towed from the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who saw the crash, or anyone with dashcam video from the area at the time, is asked to contact Trooper First Class John Wilson at john.wilson@ct.gov.
