East Windsor Police Apprehend Bank Robbery Suspect

Police responded to a robbery-in-progress Wednesday morning and the suspect was found running on Bridge Street.

East Windsor Police apprehended the man suspected of robbing a First Niagara Bank on Thursday morning.

Police arrested John Rodriguez, 34, of no certain address, after he was seen running west on Bridge Street, according to police.

The East Windsor Police Department received a 911 call that there was a robbery in progress at the First Niagara Bank located at 122 Prospect Hill Rd, East Windsor.

Police said the suspect claimed to have a weapon and demanded money from the teller. He fled the bank on foot and headed toward the highway.

A description of the suspect went out over the police radio and officers responded to the area. Officer David Szabo observed a male of similar description running west on Bridge Street.

Officer Szabo engaged the individual at gunpoint and ordered him to the ground. Connecticut State Trooper Sean Mahar arrived on scene and assisted with handcuffing and securing the suspect.

Police said the suspect, later identified as Rodriguez, was found in possession of all of the stolen bank money and no weapon was recovered.

Rodriguez was charged with first-degree robbery and is being held on a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear at Enfield Superior Court on Oct. 23.
