East Windsor Police Release Video of Truck Crash

Police said they hope to make motorists aware that hazards still exist in the breakdown lane of roads and highways.

EAST WINDSOR, CT — In an effort to increase road safety awareness, the East Windsor Police Department released video Friday of a crash that took place on Route 5 Tuesday.

The video, taken from a camera mounted atop a building just south of Stoughton Road, shows a pickup truck pulled off the southbound side of Route 5 in the breakdown lane. Moments later, a tractor-trailer truck slams into the rear of the pickup truck, pushing it into a utility pole.

"The pick-up truck driver obeyed the law by stopping to use his cell phone and the TT driver was at fault for the crash," the department stated on its Facebook page. "We are posting this video to make motorists aware that hazards still exist in the break-down lane. If possible, we recommend pulling off into a parking lot as the safest option."
