East Windsor Woman Killed in Vernon Construction Site Accident

A worker was killed in a construction accident on Friday.

VERNON, CT — A worker from East Windsor was killed at a construction site in Vernon on Friday morning, police said. The call came in at about 7:30 a.m., police said.

The incident at 1100 Hartford Turnpike — the local address for that section of state Route 30 — involved a 55-year-old woman who was a contractor at the site, where apartments are being built in the latest phase of The Grand Lofts development.

The woman was working in a first-floor unit and fell to the basement in a spot that had no stairs set up, police said.

She suffered a serious head injury, according to police.

Life Star helicopter landed at the apartment complex at about 8:45 a.m. and it took several minutes for an ambulance crew to stabilize the woman for travel to Hartford Hospital.

Police said at 11 a.m. that the woman had died from her injuries.

At 3:10 p.m., Vernon police identified her as Anita Goodwin of the Broad Brook section of East Windsor.
