Man Sped Toward Officer in Getaway Attempt: Windsor Locks Police

Police have charged the man, who has a long history of arrests, in connection to two recent motor vehicle accidents in Windsor Locks.

Windsor Locks Police have charged a 27-year-old man, who has a long history of arrests, in connection to a December incident in which he sped toward an officer in an aggressive manner before fleeing from police.

Kijuan Fortson, of 198 Duncaster Road in Bloomfield, was recently arrested on a warrant in connection to the Dec. 4 incident in which Windsor Locks Police responded to Candlewood Suites, 149 Ella Grasso Turnpike, for a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot.

The vehicle was located in the parking lot and was operated Fortson, who put his vehicle into drive and sped toward a Windsor Locks police officer, according to police.

Police said he then swerved away and fled onto Ella Grasso Turnpike.

Fortson led officers on a pursuit through Windsor Locks in the Old County/Route 75 area.

Police said that due to the inherent danger to the public and officers, the pursuit was called off as Fortson continued his escape attempt.

Fortson drove around a box truck and narrowly causing a collision, then struck another vehicle that had just made a right turn from Halfway House Road onto Old County Road, police said.

Fortson fled that scene as officers arrived to investigate the accident and render aid. Police had identified Fortson earlier and an arrest warrant was submitted for his criminal conduct.

Windsor Locks Police arrested Fortson on Jan. 28 for his involvement in another motor vehicle accident in Windsor Locks.

For the December incident, Fortson was charged with operating a motor vehicle under suspension, passing in a no passing zone, speeding, engaging officer in pursuit, reckless driving, evading responsibility and interfering with an officer.

Police said Fortson has nine pending court cases and seven convictions.

On Jan. 28, police responded to Elm Street on the report of a two-car motor vehicle accident.

During the course of the investigation, police discovered that Fortson, operator of one of the vehicles, had an active arrest warrant on file.

Officers discovered a Ziploc bag containing suspected marijuana inside the vehicle, along with 4 cell phones and more than $1,000 in currency.

Fortson was charged with operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license and illegal possession of marijuana in that case.
