Patch Picks: Mexican Restaurants

For when you want tacos, enchiladas, tortas etc., here's a sampling of area Mexican restaurants.

This week Patch Picks showcases Mexican restaurants in our region. So, if you are in the mood for a burrito, some spicy salsa or a margarita, here are some restaurants to check out:

Acapulcos Mexican Restaurant
Acapulcos in Enfield offers a large menu, with a variety of choices including chicken, beef, seafood and vegetarian dishes. It features enchiladas, chimichangas, burritos and more, such as traditional dishes like pork Carnitas, made with fresh garlic and covered with a mild red Carnita sauce and guacamole. Acapulcos first opened on the East Coast in Massachusetts, and now has a dozen locations, mostly in Massachusetts, with two in Connecticut. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Hacienda Del Sol
offers fresh-made Mexican food in a cozy setting. The menu includes fajitas, steak, chicken and seafood dishes, burritos, enchiladas and more. Their homemade salsa has a delicious flavor without being too spicy and entrees are generous. Hours are Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Sarapes
Popular for authentic Mexican food, can get busy; take-out is an option for lunch if you have limited time. Open seven days a week, the menu includes several types of tacos, gorditas, tostadas, tamales, enchiladas and chile rellenos.

Agave Grille
Known for making guacamole fresh at the table, Agave offers a nice atmosphere and friendly service. Located in downtown Hartford, on Allyn Street, parking can be a challenge, but there are metered spaces and lots nearby. Servings are generous and delicious with a variety of homemade sauces and salsas. In addition to traditional favorites, they offer unique salads, wraps, burgers and more. The restaurant opens at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with brunch served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Margarita’s Mexican Restaurant
Known for their signature drink, Margarita’s offers more of a Tex-Mex or American-style Mexican food. Tomato garlic nachos, Aztec shrimp quesadillas, a variety of fajitas, tacos and steak dishes are just a sampling of the large menu available. With locations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire, the chain now has 23 restaurants. They are open for lunch and dinner daily and have late-night lounge hours.
