Vehicle Strikes Pedestrian, Flees Scene in East Windsor (UPDATED)

Police release man's identity, update on his condition.

UPDATE:

East Windsor Police say the condition of the man struck by a vehicle on Route 5 Tuesday night is improving.

The man, who has been identified as Shamel Stroman, 33, of East Windsor, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The incident is being investigated by Metro Traffic Services and police received a witness account later Tuesday evening.

The witness told police he was traveling northbound on Route 5 and was stopped at a red traffic light. A large silver box truck was stopped directly in front of him. He observed a male run onto Route 5 and jump on the back of the truck, holding on to the right rear corner.

As the traffic light turned green and the truck began to accelerate, the male was not able to hold on and tumbled onto Route 5.

The man got up immediately and did not appear to be injured, according to the witness. The description of the male matched that of the victim who was later found injured and was identified as Stroman.

Police said it is still unknown at this point the circumstances surrounding the victim’s injuries but he told officers he was struck by a vehicle.

A man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene Tuesday night in East Windsor.

East Windsor Police responded to the area of 123 South Main Street (Route 5) around 7:30 p.m. on the report of a man who had been struck by a vehicle.

Officers found the man lying in the shoulder of the northbound travel lane on South Main Street.

Police said the vehicle that struck the man was traveling northbound and left the scene.

Police did not have a description of the evading vehicle as of Tuesday night.

Warehouse Point Fire Department and East Windsor Ambulance Association responded for assistance.

The man was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries, which included a head injury, according to police.
