Windsor Locks Police are warning residents of an ongoing phone tax scam in which callers tell individuals that they owe back taxes or there is a problem with a past tax return.

Tax season is upon us and so are the scams where residents receive telephone calls from individuals claiming to be from the Treasury Department or a Federal agency.

The callers tell the residents that they owe back taxes or there is a problem with a past tax return. The callers try to convince residents to make prompt payment or they will face arrest or some sort of legal action.

These calls are scams. If you receive one of these calls don’t give the caller any information and don’t be tricked to pay any money. Hang up on the caller and report the incident to the police department.
