Distracted DUI Driver Crashes Into Police Cruiser: PD

Windsor Locks Police arrested the woman after she allegedly struck an Enfield K-9 cruiser while the officer was on his way to work.

A Massachusetts woman was arrested by Windsor Locks police late Tuesday night after she crashed into the rear of an Enfield K-9 cruiser on Route 159, police said.

Ibolya Horvath, 33, of Malden, Mass., is charged with operating under the influence, distracted driving and following too closely. She was released on a $500 surety bond, and is scheduled to appear in Enfield Superior Court on March 14.

An account from Windsor Locks police says Horvath was texting while driving southbound near the Route 140 bridge when she slammed into the rear of the cruiser driven by Enfield K-9 officer Chris Dufresne, who was stopped at the red light while on his way into work around 11:51 p.m.

Dufresne was taken to an area hospital with neck and back injuries, but did not require admittance into the hospital, Enfield Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said.

His K-9 partner, Bruin, was not injured, according to Windsor Locks police. Horvath was also not injured in the collision.

The cruiser was severely damaged and had to be towed from the scene, police said.
