A presentation by Paula Hopewell who is a member of the Lincoln forum, covers the influence the border region had on Lincoln and the sources of his extraordinary compassion, a character trait that helped him steer the country though the Civil War. She details some of the tragedies of Lincoln's personal life and highlights excerpts from his exquisite speeches. In addition, the presentation will include information about Connecticut's role in the War, including Harriet Beecher Stowe's connection, the Copperhead Movement in Connecticut and 1860 and 1864 Presidential election results for some of Connecticut's local towns.
