This year, it's all about 90s grunge with a feminine flair and colored denim for boys and girls. What fashion trends do your kids like?
Gone are the days when the only color for denim was blue. Now, back to school fashion trends include colored denim for everyone, said Jenny Bernholz, public relations associate for Old Navy.
"Just as it’s big for girls, colored denim is a also big trend for boys this fall," she said.

- Color is huge for BTS this year; the most modern way to wear it is head-to-toe. No back-to-school wardrobe will be complete without skinny jeans in bright happy color.
- Preppy dots are also making a big comeback this year, as well as bright, bold stripes. These classics get a new twist with feminine details like sparkle and shine.
- No outfit would be complete this fall without a touch of animal print.

When it comes to backpacks, characters are in for the younger set, Bernholz said. Specifically, it's all about Star Wars and The Avengers, she said.

Remember the grunge look from the '90s? It's back, but with a 2012 flair. Macy's listed some tips to soften the grunge look.
"Look for ‘90s grunge to meet girlish charm with destroyed denim and studded leather jackets by day, and softer-colored lace dresses and Mary Janes by night," the Macy's fashion guide stated.
Other back to school trends for girls include:
- British-inspired capes
- Tie-neck blouses
- Textured knits in rich earth tones
- Pairing masculine silhouettes (Peter Pan collars) with glamorous embellishments, like tutu skirts
- Tribal-inspired clothing
