Given the success of opening the submissions to the public last year, the magazine is looking to expand its readership and authorship even further this year.

The magazine published the works of writers from Vermont to California last year and is working to establish its name and its reputation for quality to an even broader population, according to the press release from NVCC.

The magazine is requesting previously unpublished pieces in three categories: poetry, prose, and graphic.

Entrants may include a maximum of five submissions with no more than three in any given category. Prose pieces should include a maximum total word count of 1,000 words and may include short stories, excerpts of larger works, essays, scenes or monologues, fiction or nonfiction.

Graphic art submissions may include photographs, drawings or graphic pieces in any medium -- color or black and white. The pieces will be evaluated with consideration for their reproduction quality as they will be printed from electronic media.

Published authors will be notified in April by e-mail and paid in copies. One copy will be sent to each author, though more (up to five) are available on request. Any author who submits work may also receive a free copy upon request.

All graphic submission will be considered for our cover competition. Current NVCC students are eligible for first, second and third place awards in each of the three categories that include cash value prizes.

The format for submissions must be as follows: Entries should be e-mailed to Greg Harding at freshink@nvcc.commnet.edu.

The e-mail must include full name, address, phone number and e-mail. Each submission must be a separate file attachment. The attachments should not contain any information about the author and file names should match titles.

Written entries must be sent in Word or Rich Text Format. Graphic images must be sent in JPG format.

Full rules and information are available on the NVCC website. Additional information may be obtained by contacting Greg Harding at freshink@nvcc.commnet.edu or 203-596-8763.
