Art On the Farm: Region 15 Students Show Photography at Arethusa Farm

The Celebration of Young Photographers event took place during the first weekend in December.

Talented young photographers from the northwest Connecticut area were among the scores of student artists who displayed their work at the first annual Celebration of Young Photographers.

The exhibit took place on Saturday, Dec. 3, at Arethusa Farm in Litchfield.

Ten Region 15 students were among those who submitted their photography: Megan Cascella, Kimberly Didsbury, Chelsey Donato, Nicole Mulready, Julianna Palumbo, Christopher Russo, Elena Sabol, Christian Santa Maria, Bridget Skinski and Matt Witek.

The After School Arts Program, or ASAP, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing artistic and cultural opportunities for children and adults, established the project to give young photographers a chance to explore their creative potential and be recognized for their talent. The celebration event was sponsored by Union Savings Bank and Shred-it.

Juried by a panel of esteemed photographers and art collectors, the selection of photographs by students from grades three through 12 reveals a breadth of talent and perspective.

Each submission of art expressed a child’s unique interpretation on the theme: Home.

"Home can mean a lot of different things," said JoAnne Torti, ASAP Executive Director. "We offer this opportunity as a way of expressing one’s artistic vision through photography, which we hope will stimulate new ideas and provide a chance to have some fun."

The artwork was printed and framed by ASAP for the exhibit. The photographs were available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting ASAP’s arts programs for children.
