Northwest Connecticut’s Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Northwest Connecticut are partnering to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey and those who will be affected by Hurricane Irma with the “Buckets of Love for Texas” initiative. The two organizations will collect cleaning supplies to place in buckets to send with love to the people of Texas who are returning to their homes following Hurricane Harvey. Also, in expectation of the forecasted course of Hurricane Irma, which may seriously affect Florida and North Carolina, collections will be shared with residents of those areas as well.
Lowe’s Home Improvement’s Torringtonstore manager Mark Seymour has agreed to donate 150 buckets to be filled with the supplies collected by the Chamber and United Way.
Residents and business people are asked to drop off donations of: rubber gloves, garbage bags, rags, sponges, bleach, cleaning sprays, mops, etc. to the Chamber & United Way offices at 333 Kennedy Drive, Suite R101, Torrington. Donations will be accepted Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 15th.

Owen Quinn, Executive Director of the United Way of Northwest Connecticut stated, “I reached out to the United Ways of Texas. They indicated that since the immediate disaster has passed, the residents and businesses could use clean-up kits. JoAnn and I tossed ideas around, and we came up with the concept of Buckets of Love for Texas. We are thankful to Lowe’s for their donation of the buckets. It is now up to our great community to fill them.”
“We all feel the need to help the residents and business people affected by the storms. The business community of Northwest Connecticut has proven time and time again how very generous they are and we invite them to join us in helping our fellow Americans through this most difficult time,” JoAnn Ryan, President & CEO of the Chamber commented. “I would like to thank everyone in advance for their contributions.”
