Spring Break Vacation Workshops for Kids

Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust has introduced full-day programs for students in pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5 during the Region 14 spring break school vacation week, April 18 through April 22. Sessions are held at the Van Vleck Farm and Nature Sanctuary, 5 Church Hill Road in Woodbury.

Dianne Parmelee, Flanders’ Education Coordinator, commented, “We’ve found that in today’s economy, there is a real need for school vacation programs that coincide with the hours of working parents.  Flanders offers daily workshops that combine environmental education with outdoor play opportunities to keep children active.”

Flanders’ “Daily Discoveries” week-long Vacation Workshops offer morning sessions, “Farm Discoveries” from 9 am to 12 noon at the North Barn, where children will explore spring on the farm, from interacting with baby animals to preparing the  garden for seeds.  A lunch break, “Garden Gourmet” precedes the afternoon sessions, “Nature In The Afternoon” from 1 to 5 pm on Flanders’ 200-acre outdoor campus, where children will explore and learn about the natural world, while building an appreciation for earth stewardship.
